Sept. 24, 2025: Happy National Tree Day! This special day is a day dedicated to celebrating the beauty and benefits of Canada’s trees and forests!
Planting even just a single tree offers hope for future generations and the survival of the planet. And, ACER has been helping communities plant trees across Southern Ontario for more than 25 years! With the help of dedicated community partners, volunteers and staff, ACER has made, and continues to make, tangible contributions to restoring and increasing the urban and riparian zone forest canopy, planting over 11,000 trees to date!
And, did you know that we measure 10% of all trees planted, and continue to monitor these same trees over time? The data collected is invaluable, not only to assess the success of the plantings but also to identify growth trends and possible correlations with other environmental or social trends. This information can then be used in the development of effective strategies for the restoration, protection and growth of our urban and riparian zone forests to strengthen local climate resilience in the face of global climate change.
Our impact—from 2023-2024 ACER projects and programs resulted in:
- 1,240 trees and shrubs planted
- 2,693 trees monitored and measured
- 945 volunteers and event participants engaged in field and training events
- 84 students and college interns mentored
ACER continues to be a leader in promoting environmental stewardship and educating on the importance of biodiversity and how to correctly plant, mulch and monitor trees to help build climate resilience.
