Seniors Measure UP!

EMPOWERING SENIORS TO GET ACTIVE AND CONNECT WITH OTHERS OUTDOORS

ACER is excited to announce our newest program, Seniors Measure UP that kicked off in 2023. This program is designed to get seniors active outdoors with others of all ages and backgrounds and teach them how to identify, and mulch, measure and monitor trees, leveraging trees planted in our parks as part of other ACER programs. Our 2023 mulch and measure events were funded by the New Horizons Seniors Program and completed in partnership with the City of Mississauga and Active Adult Centre Mississauga.

In addition to contributing to the health and well-being of seniors and promoting environmental stewardship, the tree monitoring data collected under this program will be added to ACER’s data repository for that site and program, data that can then be used to help assess the impacts of climate change and develop strategies to protect and develop our trees and our green spaces.

We are currently exploring new funding opportunities to be able to continue this program.

GOALS OF THE PROGRAM
  1. Get seniors active outdoors.
  2. Provide a unique way for seniors to connect with other seniors in a healthy and safe environment.
  3. Teach seniors about trees and the importance of environmental stewardship in their communities.
  4. Collect new sets of tree monitoring data to update ACER’s data repository.
